Outcomes of gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy in pseudoexfoliative glaucoma: 24-month follow-up. Br J Ophthalmol. 2020 Jul 29:bjophthalmol-2020-315954. doi: 10.1136/bjophthalmol-2020-315954. Epub ahead of print. PMID: 32727734.

Summary

Method: The study included 84 patients with a total of 103 eyes with PEX who underwent a 360-degree gonioscopic-assisted ab interno trabeculotomy (GATT) using a 5.0 polypropylene suture or an illuminated microcatheter. Patients were followed postoperatively for up to 24 months. The main measures were intraocular pressure (IOP), number of anti-glaucoma medications taken by the patient, success rate (IOP reduction ≥20% from baseline or IOP between 6 and 21 mm Hg, without further glaucoma surgery) and complication rate.

Conclusion: At 24 months follow-up, our results for GATT in patients with GPEX show that this conjunctival-preserving surgery effectively lowers IOP and reduces medication with a low complication rate in this relatively aggressive type of glaucoma.
