Dr. Eamon Sharkawi

CMO, Ophtalmologist FMH & Ophthalmic Surgeon

Dr Sharkawi trained as a physician and ophthalmologist in England from 1990 to 2008. He studied at the University of London, Cambridge and Oxford where he specialised in ophthalmic surgery.

From 2008 to 2018, he was in charge of the Glaucoma Unit at the Jules Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital in Lausanne, where he was also responsible for the surgical training of the heads of clinics and taught medical students at the University of Lausanne.

Dr. Sharkawi specializes in glaucoma and anterior segment surgery. He was the first surgeon in Switzerland to perform 360 degree trabecular microsurgery (ab interno) in adults and the first in Europe in infants. He has pioneered multiple surgical techniques in the field of glaucoma and cataract. He regularly organizes conferences on medical glaucoma and surgical techniques in Switzerland and abroad (in Europe and the United States). In 2018, he founded Swiss Eye Centre using private funds and works in collaboration with an excellent team of ophthalmologists and optometrists. Swiss Eye Centre is a partner of the Bois-Cerf Clinic in Lausanne, part of the Hirslanden Group.
